ECAT IMPROVES ROUTES IN 2006

Phase One Revisions Right Around the Corner

February 24, 2006

(Pensacola, Fla.) - Representatives from Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) announced today that the system is geared up for its first phase of major route revisions. These initial changes are set to begin Feb. 26, 2006 and will involve nine of the current routes. Affected routes for phase one include: 1 - 3, 5 & 6, 9, 19 & 20 and 22.

In total, 26 of the existing 35 routes will be modified in three phases. Ultimately, these revisions pave the way for an improved ECAT service. Customers will benefit from additional transit choices, increased access, better frequency and improved travel times. Additionally, service enhancements will result in five transfer centers.

"We continually work to make the best use of our resources to meet customer demand," said Chris Hager, ECAT Executive Director. "Restructuring these routes is part of that process."

System-wide changes are a result of a comprehensive operation analysis performed by the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida. Results showed that route revisions would create increased efficiency and functionality for the ECAT system.

With visual displays at the main terminal, signs inside each bus, launch of a new website www.goecat.com, electronic e-blasts and route brochures, ECAT is urging all passengers to research their new routes so they "Know How To Go."

"We strongly encourage all our customers to pick up new ride brochures, as their routes will change on Sunday, Feb. 26th," said Nancy Lohr, ECAT Director of Marketing and Customer Service. "Our staff is prepared to help customers through these changes, but they must act now to find out if they are being affected by phase one revisions."

New route brochures are available at the main transfer station located at 1515 West Fairfield Drive.

ECAT began operation in 1950 and serves Escambia County seven days a week with over 1500 stops daily. Operation includes fixed route, ADA paratransit, Pensacola Beach and UWF Trolley service. For more information call (850) 595-3228 or visit www.goecat.com. All buses are equipped with bike racks and ADA lifts.
