PHASE ONE A HUGE SUCCESS
ECAT customers Know How To Go
March 14, 2006
(Pensacola, Fla.) - Representatives from Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) announced today that phase one of system-wide route revisions are a huge success. The major changes, which began Feb. 26, 2006 and affected nine of the current routes, had virtually no impact on current ridership numbers.
ECAT reported a total of 22,482 riders during the week affected by changes. These numbers reflect a less than one percent difference in ridership as compared to the 22,569 customers that boarded the week prior to route revisions.
"With route restructuring of this magnitude, our ridership numbers are a true testament to the fact that customers were well prepared for phase one revisions," said Nancy Lohr, ECAT Director of Marketing and Customer Service. "We applaud them for working with us through this time of system-wide improvements."
Riders appear to be extremely receptive to the revisions as changes will ultimately provide them with better service. In fact, riders report the number one advantage to the modified route system: although trips may require more bus transfers, travel time is significantly reduced.
Phase two of "Know How To Go" route revisions are set to begin in mid May, 2006. Stay tuned to www.goecat.com for more information.
ECAT began operation in 1950 and serves Escambia County seven days a week with over 1500 stops daily. Operation includes fixed route, ADA paratransit, Pensacola Beach and UWF Trolley service.
